Tinubu’s aide alleges cabals are behind planned nationwide protests over hardship
The Presidency has accused members of a cabal and enemies of Nigeria of orchestrating the planned nationwide protests. According to the Presidency, these individuals are against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s progressive policies and youth-inclusive government.
Sunday Asefon, Special Adviser to the President on Student Engagement, made this statement during a town hall meeting on the proposed protests, organized by Osahon Okunbo, Chairman of Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Asefon stated, “The cabals and bad elements are behind the push for protests because they are uncomfortable with the progress we are making. They are accustomed to a system where ministers are appointed based on age, but President Tinubu is changing that by bringing in young people and implementing policies that do not align with their interests.”
Asefon highlighted the administration’s achievements, particularly in the education sector, saying, “No president has accomplished what President Tinubu has in one year. He has made student loans a reality, resolved the long-standing issues between the Federal Government and lecturers, and introduced policies that benefit young people.”
He admitted that there had been a failure in effectively communicating Tinubu’s achievements to the public, especially on campuses. “I have failed because I couldn’t go to campuses to tell them about our president’s accomplishments in his first year in office. But I’m confident that this is the Nigeria many of us have dreamed of,” he said.
Lucky Emonefe, President of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), urged Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu’s government, acknowledging the progress and potential of his administration.
